| Q: |
Recently
at practice we were running through
a routine for a show that we are going
to be performing in. I was doing my
toe touch and when I landed, I came
down on my foot wrong. I ended up spraining
my ankle pretty bad. I can't cheer for
a while. I don't know what I am going
to. I love cheering. My favorite part
of cheerleading is stunting. I am a
flyer in one of the stunt groups. I
feel like I am letting my stunt group
down. What should I do? |
| A: |
In any
athletic sport, there is a chance that
injury can occur. We know that it is
frustrating and can be upsetting. All
athletes face these set backs. It makes
you, as an individual and team member
stronger. Your stunt group may be disappointed
that you will not be able to show off
your stunts with them, but they understand.
Every cheerleader goes through this.
Make sure to support you team, even
if you are not physically able to participate.
Your teammates and coaches will respect
and appreciate your dedication to your
team and the sport of cheerleading.
Rest up and let your ankle heal fully
before you return to practicing. JAMZ
wishes you and your team the best. Good
Luck! |

I
have a hard time bringing my legs up
off the ground in toe touches. What
can I do to improve? |
| A: |
This is
a problem that a lot of cheerleaders
have! The number one thing to remember
is that when you execute your jump you
have to KEEP YOUR CHEST UP! To be aware
of the exact position you should be
in during the execution of the toe touch
jump, sit on the ground in a straddle
position, sit upright so your chest
is up, hit a "T" motion with
your arms, and point your toes. This
is the exact position you should be
in when you are in the air. When sitting
in this position, try the
