| Q: |
I'm
interested in trying out for a coed
college cheer team, but I need more
practice at partner stunting. Our gym
doesn't have many male stunt partners,
do you know how I can get more practice
before college cheer tryouts? |
| A: |
Today,
many college cheer programs offer partial
or even full-ride scholarships for athletes.
The more experience you have at partner
stunting, the bigger edge you have over
the competition. Try contacting the
coach of the college coed team you're
interested in trying out for to see
if they will be hosting any stunt clinics.
This would be the perfect time to introduce
yourself and show them that you're super
motivated. If no clinics are available,
try an alternate college in the area
or contact a major cheer company that
may offer a partner stunt private for
a one-day fee. Funny thing is, there
are just as many male stunters looking
for a female partner stunter too. Just
don't give up! Even if you're used to
all-girl stunting, many flyers are quick
to catch on to coed partner stunts.
Remember to always have a spotter during
partner stunt practice. We wish you
the best of luck at tryouts! |

| Q: |
Last
year my team was penalized for an illegal
stunt. How can I avoid this in the future?
|
| A: |
It is frustrating
when a routine receives a penalty deduction
for an illegal stunt, something that
could have
been avoided. JAMZ is implementing new
features for coaches to help prevent
this type of situation in the future.
Coaches can now view a list of FTDs
(Frequently Taken Deductions) for the
current season online in the Championships
section. All divisions, general safety
rules, and routine guidelines are available
to be downloaded in the Championship
Info Center. But best of all, anytime
a coach has a question regarding a safety
guideline, he or she can email the JAMZ
Head Rule Judge at
rules@jamz.com. It's so important
for all coaches to read the rules thoroughly.
JAMZ is an Official Member of the USASF
(which makes the divisions and rules
more standardized), however, it's important
to note that all coaches should read
every company's guidelines prior to
attending a competition.

| Q: |
Ive
heard that the USASF is planning to
offer a credentialing program for gyms
to be able to educate and certify each
coach. How can our gym take part in
this process? |
| A: |
It is true
that the USASF will be offering a credentialing
program to promote and educate coaches
on the modern techniques of stunting
for safety purposes. JAMZ will be trained
to offer this credentialing program.
More information will be available in
the future so stay tuned! Coaches can
also contact the USASF for further details
on benefits of the program by logging
onto www.usasf.net.
